The Steelbird SBH-67 Vintage DOT 5.0 is a retro-styled open-face helmet that sells for about ₹1,800–1,900 in India. It carries both ISI and DOT certification, weighs roughly 1 kg and comes in 22 colour options. It suits city riders who want classic looks and a light helmet. It is not the right pick if you ride fast highways often, because an open-face design leaves your chin and jaw uncovered.
Steelbird’s vintage range has been around for a while, but the 5.0 is the one riders are suddenly searching for. Google Trends data for India shows searches for “steelbird vintage 5.0” climbing 1,150% in the three months to late September 2026. Dealers started stocking it around July.
We have not ridden with this helmet. This guide pulls together Steelbird’s official specifications, current retailer listings and what the certifications actually mean, so you can decide without guesswork.

What is the Steelbird SBH-67 Vintage DOT 5.0?
It is the newest helmet in Steelbird’s vintage and retro line, and with a ₹2,499 MRP, the priciest one currently listed.
Steelbird launched its first vintage-inspired helmets in December 2024. Those were the SBH-54, SBH-55 and SBH-56, priced between ₹959 and ₹1,199, all ISI-only. The SBH-65 3.0 Retro with a peak cap followed, and it also carries ISI and DOT marks. The SBH-67 sits at the top of this family.
You will see the same helmet sold under several names, which confuses a lot of buyers:
- SBH-67 Vintage DOT 5.O (Steelbird’s own site, with the letter O)
- SBH-67 Vintage DOT 5.0 (most dealers)
- SBH 67 Retro 5.0 (Flipkart listings from Steelbird’s official seller)
- Steelbird Vintage 5.0 (how most riders search for it)
They are all the same model. If a listing says SBH-67, it is this helmet.
Steelbird’s product page lists the manufacturer as GLL Industries in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, one of the company’s production units.
Steelbird Vintage 5.0 price in India (September 2026)
Expect to pay ₹1,799 to ₹1,869 for most colours, against an MRP of ₹2,499.
| Where | Price seen | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Flipkart (seller: Shoponsteelbird) | ₹1,869 (MRP ₹2,499) | Drops to about ₹1,585 with bank offers; some colours listed at ₹2,049 |
| Arihant Helmets (dealer) | ₹1,799 | Glossy Black, M and L sizes |
| Motorizzr (dealer) | ₹1,799 | Matt Squadron Blue, sold out at the time of checking |
Prices move often, especially during festive sales. Buy from Steelbird’s official store, its authorised Flipkart seller or a known dealer. Fake helmets with copied ISI stickers are a real problem in India, and a genuine ISI mark is only worth something on a genuine helmet.
Sizes
Steelbird sells the SBH-67 in three sizes, measured by head circumference:
| Size | Head circumference |
|---|---|
| M | 58 cm (580 mm) |
| L | 60 cm (600 mm) |
| XL | 62 cm (620 mm) |
There is no S size. Riders with a head smaller than about 57 cm, including many women and teenagers, may find even the M too loose. A loose helmet can shift or come off in a crash, so do not size up for comfort.
To measure, wrap a soft tape around your head about 2 cm above your eyebrows and just above your ears. If you fall between two sizes, try both in a store before buying online.
Colours
Steelbird’s site lists 22 finishes.
- Glossy (13): Black, White, Silver, Titanium Grey, Armada Blue, Jazz Blue, Sea Blue, Y. Blue, Mist Green, Exotic Green, Coral Peach, Rivera Red, Cherry Red
- Matt (9): Black, Titanium Grey, Axis Grey, Armada Blue, Squadron Blue, Battle Green, Desert Storm, Cherry Red, Maroon
The pastel shades such as Coral Peach, Mist Green and Sea Blue lean towards scooter riders. Matt Battle Green, Desert Storm and Maroon suit classic motorcycles like the Royal Enfield Classic 350 or Jawa 42. Light glossy colours also make you easier to spot in traffic, which is a small but real safety plus.

How safe is the Steelbird Vintage 5.0?
It meets India’s legal standard and the US DOT standard, which puts it above the ISI-only helmets at this price. But it is still an open-face helmet, and that limits how much protection any certification can promise.
What ISI means
ISI marking under IS 4151:2015 is mandatory for every two-wheeler helmet sold in India. It confirms the helmet passed the Bureau of Indian Standards tests for impact absorption, penetration resistance and strap strength. Riding with a non-ISI helmet can get you fined, and it offers no verified protection at all.
So ISI is the minimum, not a bonus. Every helmet you should consider in India has it.
What DOT adds
DOT refers to the US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 218. It is the legal minimum for helmets sold in the United States.
Two things are worth knowing:
- DOT is self-certified. The manufacturer tests and declares compliance. The US regulator checks helmets through random compliance testing after they go on sale. There is no pre-approval step.
- DOT is not ECE. The European ECE 22.06 standard tests more impact points, including angled impacts. Helmets in the ₹1,500–2,500 band rarely carry ECE.
In short, ISI + DOT is a sensible step up from ISI-only, but it does not put this helmet in the same class as an ECE-certified full-face helmet.
The open-face trade-off
An open-face helmet protects the top, back and sides of your head. It does not cover your chin or jaw. In a fall where you land face-first, that area takes the hit.
This is the single biggest factor in deciding whether the Vintage 5.0 is right for you, far more than any feature on the spec sheet. For low-speed city riding, many riders accept that trade-off in exchange for comfort, airflow and visibility. For highways, touring or fast riding, a full-face helmet is the safer choice.
Buying a genuine one
Check these before you pay:
- The ISI mark with a licence number (CM/L-xxxxxxx) is printed or embossed, not a loose sticker
- The Steelbird name and model number appear inside the helmet
- The seller is Steelbird’s official store, its authorised marketplace seller or a listed dealer (Steelbird has a dealer locator on its website)
- The price is not suspiciously low. A “Vintage 5.0” at ₹700 is almost certainly a copy
Design, comfort and everyday use
The Vintage 5.0 is built for looks and short rides, and on paper it delivers both.
Retro design
The shape follows the classic jet helmet: a rounded shell, open face and a long front visor. Retailers describe the visor as one of the longest in its class, reaching down to cover most of the face from dust and rain. That is a practical touch for Indian roads, where an open-face helmet with a short visor lets grit straight into your eyes.
The two visors in the box are useful. Keep the clear one fitted for night rides and swap to the smoke visor for harsh afternoon sun. Never ride at night with the smoke visor down, as it cuts visibility sharply.
Weight
At about 1,000 g, the SBH-67 is light. For comparison, dealers list Steelbird’s SBH-57 Fighter Bass X full-face helmet at around 1,500 g. That 500 g difference is noticeable on a long commute and makes the Vintage 5.0 easy on the neck in stop-and-go traffic.
Heat and airflow
Open-face helmets are naturally cooler than full-face designs because your face gets direct air. That makes this helmet a reasonable pick for hot cities like Ahmedabad, Chennai or Delhi in summer. Steelbird has not published vent details, so expect most of the cooling to come from the open face rather than from vents.
Bluetooth readiness
There is no built-in Bluetooth. According to one retailer, the interior has space for an add-on Bluetooth or hands-free kit. If you want calls and navigation, budget roughly ₹1,500–3,000 extra for a basic clip-on unit. Check that its speakers fit the ear pockets before buying.
Glasses
Open-face helmets are usually easier for spectacle wearers, since there is no chin bar or tight cheek pad to push the frames. Try it with your glasses on in the store to be sure.

Buy it if most of your riding is in the city under 60 km/h and you want a light, good-looking helmet with more than the legal minimum certification.
Good fit for:
- Scooter riders on Activa, Jupiter, Vespa or Ntorq-type scooters who want something better looking than a basic open-face helmet
- Owners of retro motorcycles such as the Royal Enfield Classic or Hunter, Jawa, Yezdi or Honda CB350, who want the helmet to match the bike
- Daily commuters in hot cities who find full-face helmets stuffy
- Pillion riders, especially now that pillion helmets are strictly enforced in many cities
- Riders who wear glasses
Skip it if:
- You ride highways or expressways regularly, or tour long distances
- You ride a sports or performance bike, or at speeds above 80 km/h
- Your head measures under 57 cm, because there is no S size
- You want built-in Bluetooth
- You need ECE-level protection
If you fall in the second group, look at a full-face helmet instead. The Steelbird SBH-57 Fighter series or an Axor Apex is a better use of your money for highway riding.
Steelbird Vintage 5.0 vs alternatives
The closest rivals are other retro open-face helmets between ₹1,500 and ₹2,200. Prices below were seen on Flipkart in late September 2026.
| Helmet | Certification | MRP | Selling price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steelbird SBH-67 Vintage DOT 5.0 | ISI + DOT | ₹2,499 | ₹1,869 | Widest colour choice, dual visors |
| Steelbird SBH-65 3.0 Retro (with peak) | ISI + DOT | ₹2,099 | ₹1,569 | Same family, peak-cap look, cheaper |
| Axor Retro Jet Euro Globe | Check listing | ₹2,681 | ₹2,099 | Bold graphic retro designs |
| TVS Silk Route Jet Vintage | Check listing | ₹1,899 | ₹1,563 | TVS-branded retro option |
| Steelbird SBH-54/55/56 Vintage | ISI | — | ₹959–1,199 at launch | Tightest budgets |
SBH-67 vs SBH-65 3.0: Both are ISI + DOT open-face retro helmets from Steelbird. The SBH-65 is about ₹300 cheaper and adds a peak cap. The SBH-67 has a far bigger colour range and ships with a spare smoke visor. If you like the peak-cap style, the SBH-65 is the better value.
SBH-67 vs older Vintage series: The SBH-54 to SBH-56 models cost several hundred rupees less but are ISI-only. The DOT mark on the 5.0 is the main reason to spend more.
SBH-67 vs Axor Retro Jet: The Axor costs about ₹200–250 more and is known for bold graphics. Confirm its certification on the listing before comparing safety.
Verdict: is the Steelbird Vintage 5.0 worth buying?
Yes, for city riders who want a retro open-face helmet. At around ₹1,850 it gives you ISI + DOT certification, a light 1 kg shell, two visors and 22 colours, which is a solid package from India’s largest helmet maker.
What holds it back is what holds back every open-face helmet: no chin protection. Add the missing S size and the lack of published liner and ventilation details, and it is clearly a helmet for short, slower rides rather than an all-rounder.
Pros
- ISI + DOT dual certification at under ₹2,000
- Light at about 1,000 g
- Clear and smoke visors included
- 22 colours, more than most rivals
- Long visor keeps dust and rain off the face
Cons
- Open face: no chin or jaw protection
- No S size for smaller heads
- No built-in Bluetooth
- Steelbird has not published liner or vent specifications
- The “Vintage 5.0 / Retro 5.0 / 5.O” naming makes genuine listings harder to find
If you mostly ride in town and like the classic look, it is one of the better-value retro helmets you can buy right now. If you ride highways, spend the same money on a full-face helmet.
